Story by Sutherland Shire Council
This year Sutherland Shire Council is gearing up for an Australia Day like no other. To celebrate 20 years of its flagship Australia Day community event, Council is proudly presenting AUSFEST, a free two-day festival with a huge line up of local and international entertainment.
We’re counting down to an Australia Day like no other. The line up of entertainment is huge.
Day one of AUSFEST kicks off with the Shire welcoming its newest Australian Citizens at Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Australia Day morning, followed by a second ceremony on stage at Cronulla.
The flagship concert at Cronulla starts at 1pm and will be headlined by the internationally acclaimed Ten Tenors. The group return to the beachfront stage ten years after their first stellar performance for another spectacular free concert. This is top class entertainment to the power of ten, and stunning Cronulla beach as the backdrop.
The jam-packed Cronulla Australia Day line up also includes a screening of the film Storm Surfers, performances from Engadine and Miranda Musical Society, the Original Sin INXS Show, Chantelle Symes, the JC All Stars playing Aussie rock favourites and a fantastic fireworks display at 9pm.
At Illawong on Australia Day the entertainment, summer vibes and family fun will collide at our Blaxland Oval site with Sydney covers band Enter Sideways taking top billing as well as the Spring Breaks, the Crowdies and the Original Sin INXS Show.
There will be plenty of family-friendly celebrations with live funky beats and up tempo tunes, treats to eat, children’s activities, and spectacular live fireworks at 9pm.
Day two of AUSFEST brings Shire Vibes to Cronulla Park. Showcasing local talent including our headline act, Caravãna Sun, who will have you kicking back or kicking up your heels. Shire Vibes promises to deliver smooth tunes and a chilled atmosphere, perfect for cruising into the Australia Day weekend with performances from The Spring Breaks, Josh Arentz, Danielle Lamb and Matty Jay, and Dylan Wright.
Sutherland Shire Council has a massive two day program planned for AUSFEST. What more could you ask for really – live music, art installations, activities for the kids, community BBQs and summer vibes. Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce says “The only thing missing is you!”
There are a range of transport options for both Cronulla and Illawong. Catch the train to Cronulla and avoid the parking queue as extra train services will be running on the day. In Illawong, there will be a free community bus running from Bangor, through Menai to Illawong.
